This Week in Battlefield and Beyond

Battlefield 2042 has been out for over a month now, and in that short period of time, a lot has changed. Today, we’re going to talk about some of those changes, with a focus on the recent Christmas content that proved somewhat controversial among fans.

If you’re not sure what we’re talking about, don’t worry, as all will be revealed below. Let’s get started.

Canceled Christmas Content

Earlier this month, new Battlefield skins got leaked that caused outrage among fans, prompting DICE to remove them from the game entirely. The main perpetrator in question was a “Santa Boris” skin pictured below.

I’m here to kick ass and give out candy canes, and I gave the elves all my candy canes. Speaking of which, try “Attack of the Elves,” it’s fun! 🎅

Many regarded the skin as not being in line with the serious nature of Battlefield 2042, with others also criticizing DICE for focusing on cosmetics rather than fixing bugs and other major issues plaguing the game. As of today, the skin still hasn’t been added and likely won’t be returning any time soon, which is good news for those of us that weren’t happy seeing it here in the first place.

Attack of the Elves

In other news, a new infection-style Attack of the Elves game mode was released on December 16th through the Battlefield Portal, and it’s been received quite well. This is likely in part due to it being a completely separate game mode from the rest of Battlefield 2042, meaning anyone wanting to take the game seriously doesn’t have to play or engage with the Christmas-themed content offered here. A few major bugs and quality of life issues have also been sorted out, so fans are generally a bit less upset over the state of the game.

In terms of the game mode itself, it’s very fun and fast-paced, so if you’re looking for a change to the standard Battlefield experience then you should consider giving it a go. It’ll be around until January 6th, so you have plenty of time to try it out and see if you like it.

Upcoming content

This week, data miners also uncovered some info about the upcoming Battlefield 2042 Season 1 content, which is due to arrive in March 2022. Things you can expect to arrive include a new battle pass, specialist, map, and game modes. Lots of really exciting stuff coming, but we’ll unfortunately have to wait a little bit longer before it gets here.
